MAURICIO POCHETTINO PRAISES ONE CHELSEA STAR AFTER 'UPSETTING' PENALTY ROW

Mauricio Pochettino said he was “so upset” by the penalty row that erupted between Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke during his side’s 6-0 win against Everton.

The Blues blew away the Toffees with their best performance of the season, and their biggest win under Pochettino.

But much of Pochettino’s post-match interview was about a row that occurred between the three players following a penalty award to the Blues.

Jackson and Maudeke initially argued over who was going to take the penalty, before Jackson was pushed away by Thiago Silva.

Maudeke thought he’d therefore won the battle, but Conor Gallagher stepped in to tell him that Palmer – who had converted eight from eight spot kicks this season – would be taking it.

And Gallagher’s actions earned praise from Pochettino, who felt the midfielder was the one player who showed maturity.

‘It’s not about punishment, it’s about learning,’ said Pochettino. ‘They are very young guys.

‘It was a very good the reaction from Gallagher.

‘We cannot show this type of behaviour. It’s a punishment for everyone because they all know who was the taker.

‘Palmer is on the pitch, he is the taker.’
