ENGLAND DUO INK DEALS WITH TOP 14 GIANTS AS INTERNATIONAL CAREERS PUT ON HOLD

England duo Kyle Sinckler and Lewis Ludlam have signed long-term contracts at Top 14 outfit Toulon, it was announced by the club’s president on Thursday.

The pair will depart Bristol Bears and Northampton Saints respectively after inking three-year deals, which will subsequently put their Red Rose careers on hold.

Toulon president Bernard Lemaitre confirmed the moves for Sinckler, 31 and Ludlam, 28, in a major boost to the Top 14 side’s stocks in the upcoming campaigns.

Impressive signings

“They [Kyle Sinckler, Lewis Ludlam] are two good signings who will complete our forward pack for many years,” Lemaitre said to AFP as he announced the deals.

“They respond to the profiles we’re looking for in our recruitment, we’re trying to have higher expectations on mentality, behaviour and lifestyle of players like their impressive compatriot Dave Ribbans.”

Both Sinckler and Ludlam did not play for England in the recent Six Nations, with their last international appearances coming during the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

While England performed admirably in the Six Nations, news of the pair’s exit is no doubt a setback to head coach Steve Borthwick as they are quality operators.

Sinckler has played 68 times for the Red Rose while Ludlam boasts 25 caps to his name so they’re established internationals who have solid years ahead of them.

Their moves from next term means they join the likes of Ribbans, Henry Arundell, Jack Willis and Joe Marchant in France and are therefore ineligible for England.

Owen Farrell is also set to play in the Top 14 for Racing 92 while Manu Tuilagi will join Bayonne and Courtney Lawes has signed for current Pro D2 outfit Brive.

Premiership exodus

The group of players join a host of other names who are leaving the Premiership to join a French club, while several other domestic stars are mulling their futures.

Ludlam will be in action for Northampton on Friday night when they tackle Saracens in the Premiership while face Gloucester at Kingsholm on Saturday afternoon.
