RISHI SUNAK REFUSES TO RULE OUT JULY ELECTION

IN WARSAW- Rishi Sunak has left the door open to a summer election as he refused to rule out going to the polls in July.

Speaking to reporters on a flight to Poland, where the Prime Minister is unveiling a package of military aid for Ukraine, he would not rule out a July vote.

Mr Sunak repeated previous comments that it would be “in the second half of the year”.

When pressed that this could mean July, he said: “All I’m going to say is the same thing I say every time – as I said I think it was in the first week of January, my working assumption is an election in the second half of the year.”

The PM did not make a specific commitment that flights of asylum seekers would take off to Rwanda before the next election.

“As I said on flights yesterday, 10-12 weeks, that’s what we’re working towards for all the reasons that I outlined yesterday,” he said.

This is a developing story
