MAP SHOWS WHERE 35 NEW ALDI STORES ARE OPENING THIS YEAR

Aldi is opening dozens of new stores this year as part of a massive expansion project.

The discount supermarket opened its 100th story in Woking last year, and it seems Aldi bosses thought they might as well open even more.

New Lidls in Skelmersdale, Lancashire, and Newport, Wales, opened earlier this year.

No exact dates of when the doors will open for these new stores have been given but Aldi stresses they will in the ‘coming months’.

And these won’t be the last. Aldi hopes to open even more supermarkets in London – including in the rather well-heeled west London.

Property agents are scouting ‘priority locations’ like Notting Hill, Kensington and Richmond.

List of new Aldi stores opening soon:

  • Portway, Preston
  • Castle Gresley, Derbyshire
  • Meteor Retail Park, Derby
  • High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire
  • Swinfen Vale, Bardon
  • Stoke Gifford, Bristol

East London hotspot Hackney, Bromley in the southeast and Walthamstow in the northeast are also being considered.

There’s a ‘strong demand’ for more Aldi in the capital, the supermarket says, with the aim to open another 100 stores within the M25.

Aldi said yesterday it’s aiming to have 1,500 stores in the UK, with a budget of £550 million for this year alone.

Each store will create about 40 jobs for the local community.

Places in London that could soon see a new Aldi:

  • Bromley
  • Beckenham
  • Richmond
  • Walthamstow
  • Wanstead
  • Winchmore Hill
  • Notting Hill
  • Chelsea
  • Kensington
  • Chiswick
  • Highbury
  • Hackney
  • Barnet

Staff will also see their wages go up in June, with store assistants getting £12.40 an hour nationally and those in London receiving a wage of £13.65.

‌Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: ‘After attracting more new customers than any other supermarket in the last 12 months, we’re more determined than ever to expand our presence across the country.

‘We want to make high-quality food accessible to all, and shoppers know they’ll always get more for their money when shopping at Aldi.’
