MAZDA HAS UNVEILED THE ELECTRIC EX-6 SALOON, AND IT LOOKS PREDICTABLY EXCELLENT

We have good news, and we have bad news. We’ll start with the former – the Mazda 6 saloon is set to live on as the stunning EX-6 that you see above. Yep, it’s 2024 and we’re getting a new, perfectly proportioned swoopy saloon car. Hurrah!

Unfortunately, we’re not all going to be getting the EX-6, because this thing – unveiled at Auto China 2024 in Beijing – is the result of a collaboration between Mazda and Changan Automobile. Yep, it’s only for the Chinese market. Boooo.

The EZ-6 will apparently be available as a full EV with 373 miles of range, or with a plug-in hybrid setup that can manage over 620 miles with a full tank of fuel and a full battery. We haven’t been given any more specifics, but word is Changan supplied the underpinnings with Mazda focusing on design.

And what a fantastic design, once again proving Mazda’s 'Kodo' language has always been well-suited to big saloon cars. There’s a large 14.6-inch infotainment screen and a 10.2-inch digital dial display inside, and Mazda says there will be plenty of tech including ‘intelligent parking technology’ that can be operated with voice control even if you’re standing outside the car. Wild.

“The Mazda EZ-6 is the latest electrified vehicle that combines Mazda's strengths with Changan Automobile's electrified technology," said Mazda boss Masahiro Moro. “Going forward, Mazda will continue to work with Changan Automobile to turn Mazda’s China business around by introducing its unique products that meet the needs of Chinese customers who prefer advanced vehicles.”

Ah yes, that reminds us Mazda also used the Auto China show to unveil the Arata (pictured below). Currently a concept, it’ll apparently turn into a real-life crossover that’ll enter production before the end of 2025. Again, it’ll be just for the Chinese market and Mazda says the design theme is “SOULFUL + FUTURISTIC x MODERN”. Very shouty.

We’re happy to leave the Arata, but surely there’s room for a new Mazda 6 in Europe?
